Orchards need people! One of the most important things we are doing is teaching people how to care for traditional orchards. For most of the year the orchards look after themselves but their veteran trees need occasional lopping and pruning to help keep them in good health.
We offer the chance to learn about orchard care from the some of the most experienced orchardists in the region. They work alongside our volunteers in our project orchards, explaining what to do and how to do it.
We provide all the tools you need and make sure you know how to use them safely – you just need to provide old clothes, a packed lunch and a sense of humour. It’s a great opportunity to get outside and enjoy yourself whilst doing something useful.
We aim to restore 12 orchards a year, usually for owners who, for whatever reason, can’t manage them themselves. Each orchard restored is a cause for celebration since we’re helping to save our orchard heritage. We’d love you to join us!
